Job Overview

The Lead Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for designing, managing, securing, and optimizing the organization’s database systems while leading a team of DBAs. This role combines deep technical expertise in database architecture with leadership, governance, and operational oversight to ensure high availability, performance, and data integrity across all m360 platforms.

Responsibilities
  • Database Architecture & Design
    • Design and implement scalable, high-performance database architectures (cloud).
    • Define database standards, naming conventions, and data modeling best practices.
    • Lead database platform strategy (e.g., relational vs NoSQL, cloud-native vs hybrid).
    • Evaluate and recommend new database technologies and tools.
    • Ensure systems are designed for high availability, disaster recovery, and scalability.
  • Database Administration & Operations
    • Oversee installation, configuration, and maintenance of database systems (e.g., AWS RDS MySQL, AWS Aurora, AWS DocDB, MongoDB, PostgreSQL).
    • Ensure database performance tuning, query optimization, and capacity planning.
    • Manage backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
    • Monitor database health, uptime, and system performance.
    • Implement automation for routine DBA tasks.
    • Support production issues and critical incidents (on-call escalation).
  • Security, Compliance & Governance
    • Enforce database security standards including access control, encryption, and auditing.
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., ISO 27001, data privacy laws).
    • Conduct regular database audits, vulnerability assessments, and patch management.
    • Define and implement data retention, archiving, and lifecycle policies.
  • Team Management
    • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Database Administrators.
    • Assign tasks, manage workload, and ensure service delivery SLAs are met.
    • Establish team KPIs, performance goals, and career development plans.
    • Promote knowledge sharing, documentation, and continuous improvement.
    • Act as an escalation point for complex database issues.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration
    • Work closely with Infra SysOps, Application and Platform teams.
    • Provide architectural guidance to developers on database design and optimization.
    • Participate in change management, release planning, and system upgrades.
    • Communicate risks, issues, and improvements to management.
Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, information systems, or similar.

Experience: 

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in database administration, including design, implementation, and support of enterprise-grade database systems
  • At least 1 year in a supervisory role, managing DBA teams or leading database initiatives
  • Proven experience in database architecture design, including high availability (HA), disaster recovery (DR), and scalability planning
  • Demonstrated experience in cloud database platforms (e.g., AWS RDS/Aurora, DocDB)
  • Experience with database migration and modernization projects (on-premise to cloud or hybrid setups)
  • Strong background in incident management, root cause analysis, and performance tuning
